We were commissioned by the client, to work in conjunction with the base architects, to transform the hard-edged base buildings, interiors and public spaces into a beautiful tropical resort. Peter’s unique concept for contemporary timber lattice, became the signature detail that softened and enhanced the exteriors and hospitality areas of the multi award-winning Pinctada Cable Beach Resort in Broome WA.

Working with a rich colour palette, based on the Kimberley’s rugged coastal landscapes, Robyn and Peter Rektor designed the interiors of the guest rooms, suites and villas, the spa, gym, restaurant, cafe, bars, and the welcoming reception and conference areas.

The scope also included the detailing of the main swimming pool and the dip pools for the villas. We created the magical, fully programmable night time mood lighting experience in and around the pools and gardens.

All the loose furniture elements, including seating, kitchens, vanity units, bedheads, wall units, dining, bars and public spaces furniture and outdoor furniture were designed by DesignFocus.

Under our design control, prototyping and manufacturing was undertaken in Indonesia. All feature lighting was also designed by Peter and was produced in Bali.

Every custom-designed item manufactured complied with the relevant Certifications and Australian Standards. Our custom signage for the main entry, room identification and way-finding throughout the resort, was manufactured in Australia.

Our comprehensive schedules and time management plans enabled us to work within the client’s budget and achieve manufacturing and delivery time-frames, to meet the significant opening date.

The client was delighted with the results, stating that guests found the resort to be wonderfully relaxing and romantic. The Travel and Hospitality Industry awards, year after year - also validates the high standards achieved.

Robyn and Peter Rektor worked closely with Marilynne Paspaley and the spa operator, to ensure every little detail was incorporated into the design of this special place. With luxurious natural products, calming environment and nurturing professional staff, the Spa at Pinctada soon earned mutiple awards and a fine reputation.

A Sense of Place to Relax

Meander along the paved and timber walkways and enter into the tranquil domain of Pinctada’s world class spa. The gentle, knowledgeable and skillful staff will relax you.

The welcoming spa reception, features the iconic, signature Pinctada lattice on the ceiling. Warm toned recycled timber flooring and timber display cases, creates a serene atmosphere. The calming waiting area allows clients to wind-down, before being escorted to the treatment rooms.
