They met when Peter was commissioned to establish an Architectural Division for a leading European furniture importer. Robyn was an initial employee of the practice. Their mutual attraction quickly blossomed into a romance and 18 months later they were married. After the design division was established, they decided to leave and start their own independent practice in 1991.
Designfocus Resource Pty Ltd - an architectural design practice was formed - and has since carried out many successful projects, locally and nationally and internationally. Their practical problem solving skills combined with a methodical and highly creative approach to design, was soon recognised and led to major commissions - including the following:
The first upgrades - since their completion by Harry Seidler & Associates - of the retail levels of Australia Square and the MLC Centre in Sydney, that all required Harry Seidler’s approval, before being implemented - which of course we achieved.
Design concepts and direction for Navy Pier in Chicago, in association with VOA Associates, the architects transforming an old pier on Lake Michigan, into a lifestyle, entertainment precinct.
New ‘corporate look’ showrooms for Porsche and Ferrari and Maserati in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Commissioned by Porsche Cars Australia and the Ateco Automotive Group, for their respective marques.
Paspaley Pearls Flagship Store in Sydney and Boutiques in Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin, Hong Kong, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Canon Australia, Head Office in Sydney and regional offices in Melbourne and Adelaide.
King Living showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Perth.
Naturally, this isn’t full list of clients and works commissioned since the practice commenced - however, it does give an indication of the calibre of the work and our clients.
For the past decade or so, Designfocus Resource - Designfocus/DFR has concentrated on refining its knowledge and skills in the discipline of retail design and especially the current e-commerce directions and how they must be interwoven with “bricks-and-mortar” stores, in order for the retailer to not only survive, but to thrive.
In 2019, Designfocus formed partnerships with LAVA architects with studios in Sydney, Vietnam, Berlin and Stuttgart and ANKE Design Group in Las Vegas. All experienced and acclaimed studios and forward thinkers in their respective fields.
The new group harnesses the combined resources, knowledge and expertise from their individual standing, to give national and international clients the advantage that these trusted resources will deliver.
