KING LIVING

ANNANDALE NSW

“The Annandale showroom had unique challenges. It was initially two buildings, with an awkward access to the mezzanine display area. Also, it needed to comply with the current access regulations, all while reflecting the image of King Living’s sophisticated range of beautiful furniture. The result was well received”.

Peter Rektor, DesignFocus

King Living had experienced numerous disappointing attempts to revamp their very first showroom in Annandale. Following on from the success of their new Southbank and Osborne Park showrooms, King Living entrusted Peter Rektor and the DesignFocus team - Australia’s premier retail designers - to undertake the important commission to redesign King Living’s original showroom. To modernise, yet retain its charm.

The main issue was the interior ceiling height - which was “loft-style”, with exposed trusses and services - and too high to effectively suspend dynamic light fittings - and because of the mezzanine that had to be retained, installing a lowered ceiling wasn’t an option.

The feature lighting grid designed by Peter Rektor - which stopped just before the mezzanine - was the perfect solution, as it added a dramatic design element to the overall showroom environment and allowed for flexible lighting schemes, with the energy efficient Zumtobel LED light fitments.

The work was carried out in 2 stages, to keep the showroom operating throughout the works - and the most rewarding thing was the amazed and delighted reaction of the sales team, when the full showroom was revealed.

The overall result achieved a new and exciting retailing environment - with “signature” stone, porcelain, tile and timber-clad walls, stunning ambient and feature lighting - that gave a new energy and personality to a well known store.
